BEST OF NEW YORK 2004 - Best Chic Desk Items

“Gone are the tech-boom days when offices were stocked with beanbag chairs and Ping-Pong tables; today, you’re lucky to get the décor of The Office. But your desk is still your domain, and Sam Flax is the place to brighten it up. Best known for art supplies and custom printing, the Flatiron branch of this mini-chain also features aisles of desktop eye candy. You’ll find some traditional items like Bosca leather desk sets ($45–$343) and Montblancs, but most things are modern and colorful: Spanish-made notebooks by Miquelrius; Rexite colored-plastic staplers and letter trays ($20–$60); and Romodex’s Rolodex-style tabletop CD cases ($20). And if you’re looking for something to put all these goodies on, there’s a furniture section in back.”

Art Supplies, Gifts, Desk Stuff, Lighting, and Frames in New York City - April 16, 2005

Sam Flax has two stunning stores in New York City stuffed with art and office supplies, plus accessories of all types.

Gifts range from silly novelties to finally-crafted cases, frames and lamps. I love their New York license plate line - handbags, albums, and diaries are made out of old plates. Great souvenirs!

Sam Flax is locally owned, with buyers who have superb NYC taste. Rest assured you will find the types of things here that make homes and offices special. Expanded and redecorated in 2004, their flagship on 3rd Avenue is large enough to keep you captivated (and shopping) for hours. 900 3rd Avenue by 54th Street and 12 W. 20th Street near 5th Avenue, just a few blocks from Union Square.
